MU 3620. ELECTRONIC MUSIC COMPOSITION

This course addresses concepts of composition through the use of technology. Students will examine existing compositions in electronic music, art music, popular music, film, multimedia, games, and more, and compose new works within these genres. Students will present newly composed works each class and discuss their aesthetic values, musical functions, and technical underpinnings. Suggested background: knowledge of basic musicianship skills such as melody, harmony, and rhythm, as well as familiarity with at least one digital audio workstation or notation software. Students in this course collaborate with students enrolled in other creative courses in other programs at WPI to compose works for video games and other multimedia.
