V.J. Manzo
is a
composer and guitarist with research interests in theory and composition,
artificial intelligence, interactive music systems,
and music learning.
He is an Oxford University Press author with an upcoming book on
developing Interactive Music Systems
for Music Education.
He
is
Director of Music Technology
at
Montclair State University
(2007)
where he teaches courses in traditional and electronic
music and composition.
In 2005,
he
graduated
from
Kean
University
earning
a
B.A. in Music Education with a concentration in classical
guitar performance.
In 2007, he earned his
Master's In Music from
New York
University
concentrating in algorithmic
and electro-acoustic music composition and interactive music systems.
He
is currently pursuing a PhD from
Temple University with a
research emphasis
in interactive composition and performance systems for music education.
He is the author of the
Modal Object Library
(2006),
a collection of data objects that control diatonic modes,
harmony, and harmonic relationships in the
Max/MSP/Jitter and
PureData programming environments.
In
2007, he developed
EAMIR, an open-source
project assisting individuals,
including those with disabilities, to
compose and perform music with accessible musical interfaces, alternate/adaptive
controllers, and sensors.
He
has guest lectured on music technology, music education, and interactive music
systems for education and has presented compositions and
installations at numerous
conferences and forums including
ATMI,
CMS,
ISTE,
TI:ME,
SEAMUS,
ASTA,
TMEA,
and
NJMEA.
