Below are demonstration videos for various composition algorithms, programs and environments I've written.

V Bot
Version 1.0

V Bot is program that composes and performs pop, minimalist music in real-time. It was written specifically to create the type of ambient music suitable for meditative, religious situations. V Bot takes the most common four bar phrases of pop songs as they appear on clicheprogresions.com (also designed by Manzo). It plays the sustained chords from the progression in the left hand and improvises a minimalist melody in the right hand. When V Bot gets tired of what he's playing, he picks a different one, or modulates, or changes tempo, etc.

Dislocator
Version 1.0

Dislocator makes a histogram of notes played in a performance (live or MIDI) and plays back a new performance with the same rhythm composed of new pitches based on the table created by the histogram. Frequently used notes in the original composition will be more likely to reappear in the new composition.

Visit the Algorithmic Composition section for the piece Invention 16 which features this algorithm.

Communicator
Version 1.4

The Communicator was written in Max/MSP as part of a research project of the department of Music Technology at NYU. The program is designed to assist large ensembles in the direction of improvised music in a religious worship service over a large stage. The program sends music directions across a stage through a network allowing each player to receive information concerning the improvised direction of the song leader.

Mode Namer
Version 2.0

Mode Namer was written in Max/MSP and uses user inputted pitches to name seven modes regardless of pitch class. The software is especially useful to music theory students who want to see the relationships between the modes of the Major Scale, Melodic Minor Scale, Harmonic Minor Scale, and the Harmonic Major Scale. By altering notes in Note Namer, the user can see how changing one or more notes can easily change the music to another 7 note collection.

EAMIR
Electro-acoustic Musically Interactive Room
www.eamir.org
Description: EAMIR (Electro-Acoustic Musically Interactive Room) is an interactive music system that allows individuals with mild and profound disabilities to create a unique musical expression without the physical and technical limitations found in the study of traditional acoustic instruments (e.g. – violin, guitar, etc.) while allowing individuals with some musical training to interact as well.
Through the creation of original software written for this very purpose, EAMIR allows students with mild or profound disabilities to create music through the use of easy-to-use sensors such that can be triggered by stomping on a floor tile, bending a straw-like object, or waving a hand in the air. Each of these aforementioned gestures will produce a meaningful series of musical events or sounds. more>
